Get Out of Your Comfort Zone

This morning I woke up in the mountains with the snow coming down. As I walked into the living room with the fire already blazing, it sure looked comfy! “Maybe it is snowing too much to go skiing,” I thought to myself. I could just hang out by the fire, read and relax.

Luckily, I had a reservation for a group lesson so not going out into that snow really wasn’t an option. I’m so glad I did! It was energizing, exciting and exhausting. I am now ready for a nap by that blazing fire, so I’ll keep this newsletter brief.

It did make me think about how hard it can be to push ourselves outside of our physical comfort zones. I’m not talking about getting risky, I’m talking about getting up off our tush and moving our bodies. It can be as simple as taking a walk or doing a Zoom exercise class.

It could also be something that you’ve always wanted to do — kayaking in the ocean, river rafting, rock climbing. Or maybe it’s something that you used to love to do and want to start again — swimming, jogging, biking, skiing. You get the idea.

All of these activities require making a decision and making a plan. It was good that I scheduled a lesson for today because I honestly don’t think I would have gone given how much it was snowing.

I’ve recently learned a wise Scandinavian saying, “There’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes.” Or bad gear. It is so true. I could have been miserable on the mountain today, but I had the right gear.
